Private Exhibition Walkthrough at the Morgan Library & Museum

Tuesday, April 2

6:00 p.m. EDT

Aperture invites Patron Circle members and above to join Joel Smith, the Richard L. Menschel Curator and Department Head of Photography at the Morgan Library & Museum, for an intimate walkthrough of Seen Together: Acquisitions in Photography.

__

Seen Together: Acquisitions in Photography showcases over forty previously unexhibited works acquired by the Morgan Library & Museum’s Department of Photography since its founding in 2012. The pieces selected and their thematic arrangements, reflect the department’s two highest priorities: first, to build a photography collection that converses with other collections at the Morgan, including drawings, printed books, and literary manuscripts; and second, to draw from widely varied historical contexts and traditions for photographs that collectively tell larger stories about the medium. The exhibition showcases pieces by artists including Irving Penn, Diane Arbus, and Dennis Oppenheim. Notably it also features photographs of prominent figures such as Yayoi Kusama, Marcel Duchamp, and Yoko Ono.

The Morgan Library & Museum was built between 1902 and 1906 in the heart of New York City, and designed by Charles McKim of the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White. Today, this historical museum continues to acquire rare materials as well as important music manuscripts, early children’s books, Americana, and materials from the twentieth century.
