Join Bruno Ceschel, founder of Self Publish, Be Happy, for a two-day intensive workshop conceived for people interested in publishing their own photography book. Workshop participants will be given the necessary tools and insight to become editor-in-chief of their own publication. The class will cover the varied contemporary publishing models, from the zine to the traditional perfect-bound photography book. Editing, sequencing, and design will be discussed both theoretically and practically. The class will also cover distribution and marketing options for finished titles. Each participant will present his/her own book project to the class and then realize their project using Adobe InDesign or other publishing software. The workshop will end with the presentation of the newly designed photography books. Workshop meets 10:00 am–5:00 pm. both days. Lunch will be served.

Bruno Ceschel is a writer, curator, and lecturer on photography at the University of the Arts London. He is the founder of Self Publish, Be Happy (SPBH), an organization that collects, promotes, and studies contemporary self-published photography books. SPBH has become a platform for a worldwide community of contemporary photographers. SPBH’s library contains more than one thousand publications and the organization produces an extensive series of workshops, talks, and projects. Ceschel worked on the 2008 edition of the Brighton Photo Biennial as book editor at Chris Boot Ltd., and was associate and creative editor at Colors magazine. Ceschel regularly writes for FOAM, the British Journal of Photography, The PhotoBook Review, and HotShoe. SPBH has organized events at a number of institutions in London (The Photographers’ Gallery, ICA, Whitechapel Gallery) and abroad (C/O Berlin; Printed Matter, New York; MiCamera, Milan) and most recently published books by collector Brad Feuerhelm and photographers Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin for the SPBH Book Club.
