The Aftermath Project is a nonprofit organization committed to telling the other half of the story of conflict. Through grant competitions and partnerships with other institutions, the organization attempts to broaden the public’s understanding of what it takes for individuals to learn to live again following warfare and to address lingering wounds while struggling to create new avenues for peace. War Is Only Half the Story presents the winners of the Aftermath Project’s first annual grant competition, open to working photographers worldwide who cover the aftermath of conflict. The imagery in this volume represents some of today’s finest, most challenging documentary work, and the diverse approaches to the genre.
