"It is people who give the park meaning and make it a place of peace, nature, and beauty."—Bruce Davidson

Aperture is pleased to offer this very special limited-edition photograph from the Masterprint series, in cooperation with IC LAB. The Pond and Gapstow Bridge was published in Central Park (Aperture, 1995), an expansive view of this wonderfully intricate and varied space. Bruce Davidson's photographs of the park reveal a humane, democratic haven of breathtaking beauty and ecological secrets, as well as a site for wondrous adventures.

Renowned as an intrepid explorer of urban terrain, Magnum Photos member Davidson challenged himself in a remarkable new way when making this work, taking on the visual and metaphorical scope of Central Park. Davidson has chronicled the New York subway, the civil-rights movement, and life in East Harlem in previous series, and his evocative and humanistic rendering of Central Park is consistent with the vision of its original designers, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. Created to serve all classes of society, it was the country's first municipal park, conceived by urban reformers and built by immigrant labor.

This print was produced in cooperation with IC LAB under the supervision of the artist. IC LAB and Aperture are pleased to make this image available as an archival pigment ink print in a series of 5 signed and numbered prints, offered exclusively through Aperture. It is a tremendous opportunity to collect the work of one of the living legends of photography, as well as a chance own a beautiful photograph of one of New York's most iconic landmarks.
