"A single image doesn't tell you much, but seen as a collection, a pattern emerges to form a meaningful narrative." —Michael Wolf
Aperture is pleased to offer this very special limited-edition photograph from one of Michael Wolf's previous series, 100 x 100, which he recently published in book form as Michael Wolf: Hong Kong Inside Outside (2009).
For more than fourteen years the artist has been living and working in Hong Kong. Focusing his camera on specific views and elements, Wolf has explored high-density living in one of the most crowded cities on the globe. The 100 x 100 series, and specifically Nine Rooms, explores the "inside" of those who dwell within that density.
Michael Wolf (born in Munich, 1954) grew up in the United States and studied at UC Berkeley and with Otto Steinert at the University of Essen in Germany. His books include Sitting in China (2002), Hong Kong, Front Door/Back Door (2005), and The Transparent City (Museum of Contemporary Photography/Aperture, 2008).
Wolf lives and works in Hong Kong and Paris.
