description

"This work is an honest representation of the duality or multiplicity of the self in regard to decisions about intimate relationships, family, belief systems, and lifestyle options. I am interested in not only what the subject matter says about myself, but also what the viewer's response to these images says about their own identities and social constructs."—Kelli Connell

On the surface, Kelli Connell's series Double Life appears to be documenting the relationship between two women. Closer examination reveals that Connell uses a single individual to represent both sides of an evolving relationship, digitally combining multiple negatives of the same model. Through this work, Connell explores identity, gender, sexuality, and the duality of "self."

Aperture is pleased to offer Floating, the subtle and restrained style of which perfectly demonstrates Connell’s style. Connell is an artist engaged in big ideas and this photograph will be a vital addition to your collection.

KELLI CONNELL was born in Oklahoma City in 1974.
