description

This print is a stunning example of Joan Fontcuberta’s wild virtual fantasy world, which refers to the metaphoric dialogue between illusion, nature, culture, and technology.

One of Spain’s most prominent and innovative artists, Joan Fontcuberta is best known for exploring the intersection between art, science, and illusion. Using computer software originally intended for the military, Fontcuberta creates a series of fantastical landscapes by transforming classic landscape painting and photography into virtual worlds. In Orogenesis: Kandinsky, 2004, he looks to Wassily Kandinsky’s The Stanberg Lake II and transforms the landscape into a three-dimensional fantasy world.
