@aperturefnd What type of camera did Joel Meyerowitz use while shooting the NYC parks?
JM: For shooting the parks I used both a Mamiya 6×7 and a 4×5 old wooden field camera.

@aperturefnd ! what have you learned from shooting the nyc parks?
JM: I learned that you can actually find wilderness within nine miles of Times Square.

@aperturefnd What was your biggest surprise working on Legacy?
JM: The biggest surprise was the Hallet Sanctuary at 59th across from the Plaza Hotel- wilderness in the heart of the city.

@aperturefnd Hi Joel, which park do you spend the most time in? Which one has been your favorite discovery while working on this project?
JM: Spent the most time at Pelham Bay in the Bronx. My fav discovery was Udalls Cove in Queens.

@aperturefnd To JM, which photographers or photographs inspired you to pursue photography?
JM: Robert Frank was my turning point and The Americans was the book that taught me the most.

@aperturefnd How do you get a key to the Hallett?
JM: I was only able to access a key to the Hallet Sanctuary because of this special project.

@aperturefnd How many raccoons did you see?
JM: I saw a mother and two baby raccoons at the bottom of Central Park last fall.

@aperturefnd : Hi Joel! Do you think your street shooting days had any impact on your approach to landscape?
JM: Yes my street shooting taught me everything I know. I’m more connected to the intricacies of landscape because of the street.

@aperturefnd Did working on your project Legacy make you feel proud to be a New Yorker?
JM: Legacy and my Ground Zero project both connected me to New York City in a deeper way.
