In this clip, Finnish photographer Kalle Kataila explains the importance of contemplating the world today, facing the changes that man has made on the landscape. Kataila portrays his subjects alone in a wild or urban landscape, emphasizing the power of the environment, and the littleness of the human.

New Video: Simone Rosenbauer from reGeneration2

In this clip, photographer Simone Rosenbauer speaks about her Small Museums in Australia project documenting the collections and people behind these town museums.

reGeneration2: tomorrow’s photographers today exhibition is now on view at the Centro de las Artes in Monterrey, Mexico through July 17.

Following the worldwide critical acclaim of the book and exhibition reGeneration: 50 Photographers of Tomorrow in 2005, a breakthrough publication for artists such as Pieter Hugo or Nathalie Czech, Aperture Foundation and Musée de l’Élysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, have collaborated on a new edition. This second volume and exhibition–the broadest survey of its kind–features the works of eighty up-and-coming photographers selected from 120 of the world’s top photography schools.

New Video: Daniela Friebel from reGeneration2

In this clip, German photographer Daniela Friebel explains how her photography work deals with optical and perspective illusions. In this exhibition, she uses the curtain as a trompe l’oeil in reference to the first trompe l’oeil in art history.

reGeneration2: tomorrow’s photographers today exhibition and accompanying publication, was recently presented at Aperture Gallery and is now on view in Mexico at the Centro de los Artes in Monterrey. The exhibition is also opening this week at the Batha Museum in Morocco as part of the International Photo Festival in Fès.

This second volume and exhibition–the broadest survey of its kind–features the works of eighty up-and-coming photographers selected from 120 of the world’s top photography schools. New Video: David Molander from reGeneration2

In this interview, Swedish photographer David Molander presents the work from his series Dissected Street where he composes digital cityscapes using a mix of documentary and more fictional images. Molander explains how he is interested in revealing the mood of a scene he remembers in an image that lies in between painting and photography.

reGeneration2: tomorrow’s photographers today exhibition and accompanying publication was recently presented at Aperture Gallery and is now on view in France at Galerie Azzedine Alaïa in Paris, and opening in Mexico on May 9 at the Centro de los Artes in Monterrey.

New Video: Savas Boyraz from reGeneration2

In this interview, Turkish photographer Savas Boyraz explains how photography is for him a “personal journey” towards his own roots. Through his portraits where the subject usually gazes directly into the lens, Boyraz speaks about his interest in the confrontation between the artist, the subject, and the viewer. He also touches on the importance of the relationship between the photographer and its subjects revealed in the resulting portrait.

reGeneration2: tomorrow’s photographers today the exhibition will travel toParis and open at the Galerie Azzedine Alaïa, April 6 on view through May 22.

New Videos: Nicole Robson and Daniel Kaufmann from reGeneration2

Nicole Robson and Daniel Kaufmann, artists from reGeneration2, are focusing their work on re-creating domestic scenes. Using different approaches from digital to physical reconstructions, they both reveal the impact of consumer society and the fatalism of modern people today.

In this clip, Australian photographer Nicole Robson explains the process of her work from building a domestic environment from scratch, to selecting her subjects, and playing with the outside light. Robson speaks about how she tries to convey an image of the modern family and domestic environment in a theatrical, superficial way, evoking also a feeling of nostalgia.

In this clip below, photographer Daniel Kaufmann guides us through his work of digital constructions from photographs of real homes. By combining ordinary environments as well as commercial catalogs from retail stores, Kaufmann reveals how advertising photography influences our lifestyles.

In this interview, Polish photographer Anna Orlowska explains how she stages her portraits from drawing a story board, finding the right subjects, to composing the scene. Orlowska touches on a particular series presented in the exhibition, The day before, where she presents her subjects in a “moment of suspension” in their ordinary routine when they realize a change is happening in their life.
