Steve Baron, Aperture Foundation’s long-time director of production, passed away suddenly last night, May 25, 2010. Steve was a lifetime member of the Aperture family, beginning with his internship with Minor White in the early 1960s and continuing through his defining role as Vice-President of Production until his retirement in 2003.

Steve helped establish Aperture’s reputation for excellence via his supervision of the printing of Aperture’s quarterly magazine, and with titles such as the Paul Strand: An American Vision, the catalog for a major survey of the artist’s work at the National Gallery of Art. He continued to advise us on a regular basis and will be greatly missed.

Last year, Steve shared one of his favorite Aperture moments, here.
