Untitled Explosion #CFX18 by Geoffrey H. Short

Following the success of the first reGeneration project in 2005, which surveyed fifty emerging photographers from around the world, reGeneration2 brings together eighty up-and-coming artists from thirty countries working in the medium of photography. Selected by curators from The Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland from hundreds of entries submitted by the world’s top Photography schools, the compiled works look to the future of the medium as well as showcase artists whom will be redefining it.

Aperture published the US edition of reGeneration and will be releasing reGeneration2: Tomorrow’s Photographers Today in the fall of 2010. An exhibition of images from reGeneration2 recently opened at The Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne this weekend and will remain on view through September.

Now on view at A.M. Richard Fine Art is the group exhibition “Polaroid: Instant Joy”. The show attempts to provide an overview of those who have used instant film to push limits and embrace unpredictability. One of the artists, Chuck Close, was featured in Aperture magazine issue 160 and Aperture published his book of daguerreotypes, “A Couple Ways of Doing Something” in 2006. Ellen Carey, who was recently published in “The Edge of Vision” (Aperture, 2009) is also included in the exhibition.

States of Flux Opening Reception at Aperture Gallery

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Join Aperture this Thursday, June 24th for the opening reception of States of Flux, a summer show of student work from Parsons The New School for Design’s BFA and MFA photography programs. The reception will be hosted by SNAP! the Aperture Young Patrons Program and marks Aperture’s ongoing mission to support the work of promising young artists.

States of Flux was conceived as an examination of ways in which an emerging generation of artists are contending with forces of rapid technological change, new found potential for immediate mass distribution and consumption of images, as well as the burden of almost-immediate, unplanned (or planned) obsolescence of the photograph. The show’s artists are engaged in discourse about post-photographic realism while picturing the complexity of contemporary reality.
