2:00 p.m. EDT

Aperture Gallery and Bookstore, 547 West 27th Street, New York, NY

Join photographer Christopher López for a Spanish-language tour of The Latin American Photobook exhibition. López will take visitors through the seven thematic sections of the exhibition—America Before America, History and Propaganda, Urban Photography, Photo Essays, Artist’s Photobooks, Literature and Photography, and Contemporary Photobooks—and explore the individual photobooks and photographers on view, as well as Latin America’s manifold social, political, and art histories.

Christopher López has been working as a photojournalist since 2005, when he started at the New York City–based paper El Diario La Prensa. In 2008 he received support from the nonprofit photography organization En Foco for his project Puerto York, a photographic study of the Puerto Rican culture and how it exists on the island of Puerto Rico and in the boroughs of New York. Puerto York was given the Citation of Merit for the Arts from the borough president of The Bronx and has been exhibited at the borough president’s office and at Galleria Candela in San Juan, Puerto Rico. López’s photographs have appeared in El Diario La Prensa, Nueva Luz, Urban Latino Magazine, the New York Times. His work was exhibited most recently in Caribe Now: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Diaspora at the Nathan Cummings Foundation, New York, and in Voces y Visiones: Works from the Permanent Collection at El Museo Del Barrio, New York.
