The submission period for the 2011 Aperture Portfolio Prize, an international photography competition, is now closed. Information regarding the 2012 Aperture Portfolio Prize will be posted here in early 2012.

Please note that due to the high volume of requests, it is not possible for Aperture's editors to review unsolicited material outside of the Aperture Portfolio Prize competition. Thank you for your understanding.

Deadline and Timeframe:
> The deadline for the 2011 Aperture Portfolio Prize was Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 12:00 noon EDT.
> All entrants will be contacted with final results by the end of 2011.
> No exceptions are made for late submissions. Please allow for ample time to complete your entry.

Entry Requirements:
> Entrants must be current, paid subscribers of Aperture magazine (print or digital). Subscriptions must run through at least the Fall 2011 issue, #204 for 2011 entrants.
> $25 entry fee, payable during the online entry process

Competition Criteria:
When examining competition entries, Aperture's editors and curatorial staff will consider the following criteria:
> Is the work new, e.g., created in the last five years?
> Is a theme or topic carried throughout the portfolio (of up to 15 images) in a consistent manner?
> Are the individual images strong compositionally and in their use of color or tone?
>

What technical and presentation choices has the photographer made, and are they appropriate for the work? For example, is there a clear reason for using sepia-toned black and white versus a digitally enhanced palette?

> Does the body of work take an innovative or unique approach to the subject matter?

Prizes:
> In 2011, first prize is $3,000 and an exhibition at Aperture Foundation. The first-prize winner and runners-up will be featured on Aperture's website (for approximately a year). Winners also will be announced in Aperture's e-newsletter.

Important Notes:
> Aperture reserves the right to reject entries that are not submitted properly.
> Submissions should come directly from artists, not from galleries or representatives.
> Again, no exceptions will be made for late submissions. Please allow for ample time to complete your entry.
